Sue Cox qualified as a registered nurse in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Adult Nursing from Oxford Brookes University. Within her early career she held a variety of general and specialist nursing positions across the renal speciality and intensive care settings. She continued her education completing a Master of Science in Adult Nursing in 2004 and developed her passion for specialist renal nursing for those patients with chronic kidney disease.
Sue moved to Guy's Hospital in 2003 and in 2005 became Consultant Nurse for Advanced Kidney Care until 2016. During this time, she was the British Renal Society (BRS) programme chair for 2012 and 2013 conferences.
In 2016 Sue became Head of Nursing for the Transplant, Renal & Urology service at Guy’s & St Thomas’s Hospital. Sue became the Head of Nursing for Workforce Transformation and Education across Guy’s & St Thomas in 2019 focusing on pre-registration education, workforce redesign and embedding new roles within the organisation such as Nursing Associates and Advanced Clinical Practice.
Sue took a key role in leading the Nursing & Midwifery deployment and preparedness during the COVID Pandemic across the organisation. In 2021 Sue moved into her the role as Deputy Director of Nursing for Workforce and Education across the organisation and in 2023 Sue was promoted to Associate Chief Nurse and Director of Nursing for Workforce & Education.
