Retention

Presentation - Choice and flexibility around shift patterns. What is the effect on nurses' wellbeing

Flexible working has now been recognised as crucial to achieve health workforce wellbeing, and NHS England have recently published standards to support and spread implementation of flexible working practices. But what do we know about the level of choice nurses have when it comes to their work patterns? And what is the effect of choice on nurses' wellbeing? Does having more choice around shifts cancel out the negative effects of long shifts? We have collected data from many nursing staff across the UK in a variety of sectors to find out.

Presentation - Transforming dementia nursing practice.

16:00 – 16:30

Dementia nursing practice must evolve to meet future demands, despite significant changes over the past 40 years. New research indicates that most dementia care is provided by older, female informal carers, such as family and friends, who often face health and financial challenges. The focus of dementia nursing is now on supporting these carers, the invisible patients, to improve outcomes for those with dementia. This requires nurses, including those in hospitals, to have a better understanding of social care, finances, and home care. With the aging population, transforming nursing practices within health and social care systems is essential to address the shortage of care home and hospital beds.

Professor June Andrews OBE , dementia consultant, Sedaca Limited

Panel discussion and Q&As - Changing Workplace Culture

This panel will discuss strategy for transforming and improving nurses and midwife’s workplace culture by promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion, discovering ways to look after employee’s psychological wellbeing, addressing issues of bullying and incivility and encouraging nurses to speak up to ensure staff retention and safer patient care.
