Best UK Employer of the Year for Nursing Staff
Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust
Chief Nurse Fellow Programme
"Innovative Trust leadership programme the ‘chief nurse fellow programme’ cements links from ‘floor to board’. We’re the first NHS Trust to offer a multiprofessional training programme that is thinking outside the box when developing our future nursing leaders. The programme offers nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants, allied health professionals and healthcare scientists (bands 2 to 9) the opportunity to work with the chief nurse and senior managers for a week at our Trust. The programme has a huge success with frontline staff who have completed it being more confident about giving us feedback to improve our corporate/clinical decision-making processes. "

Practice Plus Group, Health in Justice (HiJ) division
Igniting passion, influencing perceptions, and promoting positive outcomes for all within Health in Justice at Practice Plus Group
"For our colleagues, Health in Justice (HiJ) is a passion; yet societal perceptions mean that the impact of our work often falls under the radar, which can impact staff wellbeing and morale. However, the pride we feel in our teams is unwavering. This is reflected in the support mechanisms, career development, and wellbeing offer we have put in place to protect our colleagues, to nurture their sense of purpose, and to promote their exceptional work. As a result, and despite working in often challenging environments, 91% of our colleagues enjoy the work they do within HiJ at Practice Plus Group."

We have also focused on the hierarchy of needs with a new colleagues changing room and lockers. Our support to nursing colleagues is demonstrating improvements in our clinical outcomes including the transformation of our patient experience. "

Quality Strategy - a focus on our safety critical workforce
"Through the development of our new Quality Strategy we devised a structured programme to attract and retain staff to stabilise our safety critical nursing and midwifery (MW) workforce. In 2021/22 we had vacancies of circa 450 registered nurses, 300 healthcare support workers and 75 midwives; and turnover and sickness rates were consistently higher than peers. We have now achieved zero vacancies in all these groups. Over the last 2 years RN and MW sickness has reduced by up to 4.7%; turnover for RN’s, healthcare support workers and midwives has reduced by over 4%."
