Dr Jill Maben is Professor of Health Services Research and Nursing at the University of Surrey, United Kingdom. She is a nurse and social scientist and her research focuses on supporting staff to care well. She has published over 100 peer reviewed papers and has received grants totally over £10 million. Jill was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) by the Queen in June 2014 for services to nursing and healthcare.

Jill has undertaken national and internationally recognised nursing and health care research and her programme of work seeks to understand the links between staff wellbeing at work and patient experiences of care. Jill’s work investigates the emotional costs of caring and staff psychological wellbeing at work. She completed the first UK national evaluation of Freedom to Speak up Guardians and Schwartz Centre Rounds in the UK. Professor Maben’s most recent research, which she will discuss, is on the highly topical subject of “Care Under pressure” psychological ill-health in nurses, midwives and paramedics and “Unprofessional behaviours in healthcare”.
